It’s been a jam-packed summer for the boys from For Boarders By Boarders (FBBB), who spent the wash-out that was this summer making sure us riders got our slope fix.
Fresh from the final event of their UK tour, powderroom.net caught up with Mikee and Thom from the collective as they paused for breath.
Stoked by the success of 2008 events in Tamworth, Braehead, Bromley, Milton Keynes, London, Caterham and Castleford, the boys were already looking forward to more fun and frolics in the New Year.
“We just want to branch out and do more,” said Mikee. “We would love to do more stuff abroad.”
With lots of people getting priced out of the sport, FBBB is also looking at making snowboarding accessible to those who ordinarily wouldn’t be able to afford it and getting to the grassroots of riding.
Having already branched out into the skate scene and art world, the boys are also looking at moving into other board sports and expanding FBBB’s role as a platform for musicians, film-makers and other creatives in the industry.
They’ve come a long way from their humble beginnings in 2006, when the concept was born, partly by Thom’s bad fortune.
He explains: “I’d dislocated both shoulders and was facing six to eight months before I could even think about getting on a snowboard.
“I was considering putting on some kind of event, then I got chatting to Mikee.”
The rest, as they say, is history.
After teaming up with DJ cH!cho, the first event was staged in October of that year and then FBBB snowballed.
From building the first kicker incorporating a DJ booth to going international in Les Diablerets last season, FBBB has gone from strength to strength.
And these boys will keep on rolling. Watch this space for more details…
