Someone has just asked what they should do about teaching their boyfriend to snowboard. So I pose the question to you - teaching significant others a good idea or a bad idea? If you've taught/learned snowboarding from your SO, let us know how it went!

My boyfriend spent a week teaching me on the snow (after I'd had about four lessons on dry slope). It's lucky he's an extremely patient man or we probably wouldn't have made it. I was a nightmare.

I wasn't taught by a boyfriend but by my sisters instead and I had totally different experiences. The first sister's teachers led me to hiking down the mountain in tears. The second teacher, who had since my first attempt at learning had become an instructor, was totally different. I actually learned stuff and we didn't hate each other. So maybe if your SO is an instructor it might be an ok idea.

I definitely think that a sister and an SO are very different kettles of fish though.

Square is right, she was a nightmare :). I wasn't allowed to watch her snowboard (makes teaching kinda hard) but if she did something good and I wasn't watching I got into trouble. On the otherhand it was a week well spent, she has way better style than me and rides anything I do much more smoothly (I'd love to say it was down to my teaching but I think her first instructor takes the credit there)

As I already posted in the forum, I refused to teach my hubby He took lessons. I give him "on snow" advice sometimes but try to keep it to little things like "bend your knees"

I'd definitely say get the professionals in. My bf tried to progress my skills when I got on holiday, it nearly came to blows, very nearly. Now if I'm struggling he'll shout 'encouraging things' at me, which really winds me up! I much prefer it if he just tells me what I'm doing wrong and leave off the encouragement. "you can do it" is not helpful, "you're hunching over too much" is very helpful, cos then I know what to do to fix it!
