Perisher Resort in Australia renamed their halfpipe after Olympic Gold Medalist Torah Bright during the 2010 Australian Junior Series Halfpipe event last Saturday.  Perisher is the official training facility for the Olympic Institute of Australia.

This weekend, while Christchurch and the rest of the Canterbury Plains were underneath the layer of low cloud, we were up in the sunshine snowboarding.  While the snowpack on Saturday was rather bulletproof, it was managed to warm up and soften up on Sunday.  Spins weren't working too well for me this weekend and after falling on your face a few times, I decided this just wasn'

Sick of summer? Hit up a summer snowboard camp. You'll learn new tricks and skill and possibly come back with a goggle tan to make all your shred friends jealous. Hanging with the pros on Hood, experiencing winter in Argentina, or chilling out in the Alps are just a few of your camp options.Did we miss something?

Over the last few years, a new breed of events which combine snow fun with music have cropped up all over the world. Offering you the chance to ride by day and party by night to world-class DJs and bands, these festivals offer a great alternative to the traditional week-long package holiday – if you can hack the pace.

Sarah Laird from South America Snow Sessions brings us another report from Bariloche, Argentina.

As I looked out the window and I saw snowflakes the size of alfajores I began to remember that it really is winter.  Sometimes it’s hard to believe that I’m skipping the dreaded heat of summer and living in winter year round.

It was Sunday night and the next storm had arrived.  The mood at dinner was a little bittersweet as the second session was wrapping up and many clients stared out the window with mixed emotions.  All were stoked to see the snowfall but sad that once again the end of SASS had come too quickly.  But at least we got to say goodbye with another fat powder storm.

When you no longer have the luxury of lots of mid-week riding, you have to make do with weekend warrior shred.  Despite school holidays and long lift lines, we still managed to have so much fun with sunny blue skies, no wind, a good crew and good home baking.

Last weekend, there was no riding partly because I was a bit lazy (when riding here on the weekend, it's a 6:30 a.m. wake-up) and partly because the weather was very average.  This weekend, I wasn't going to let a bit of rain and lack of visibility stop me.

So it begins. After returning from Utah in April, I have spent most of my time thinking about the snow. And finally, the Southern Hemisphere season in  New Zealand starts. Coronet Peak in Queenstown was the first of the resorts to open on the 5th of June. So we thought we'd head on down and celebrate. Turns out, we weren't the only ones.
