The world’s best female riders, including the 06/07 TTR Women’s top five, are heading to the Roxy Glacier Park in Kaprun, Austria today for the Roxy Chicken Jam.
The event kicks off tomorrow and offers 1000 TTR ranking points and a 30 000 Euro prize purse.
06/07 world number four Jenny Jones (GBR) will be carrying her momentum from the southern hemisphere after claiming the Burton New Zealand Open Title for slopestyle. She now sits at number four and will be the only female rider who can grab hold of the number one spot, which is currently held by Olympic Gold Medalist Kelly Clark (USA). Jones will have to place first in Kaprun, earning 1000 ranking points to put her ahead of Clark who is not competing in Kaprun. Jones, however, will stay in the Swatch TTR Top five.
06/07 world number two and currently holding the number five position on the tour at just 17 years-of-age, Jamie Anderson (USA) will be looking to defend her European Roxy Chicken Jam Title after dominating at last season’s competition. Anderson will be battling for the world number two spot alongside 06/07 TTR Champion Torah Bright (AUS), Jenny Jones, Leanne Pelosi (CAN) and local slopestyle specialist Claudia Fliri (AUT) who had eight top ten results in her last ten TTR events.
Last season’s Roxy Chicken Jam gave witness to incredible progression for female snowboarding as riders like Jamie Anderson, 05/06 TTR Champion Cheryl Maas (NED) and Jenny Jones, who all took podium last year, stomping smooth, technical tricks.
Having already received 2.2m of snow, the Roxy Glacier park allows ten different lines through a multitude of features including a triple kicker line, a 7m high Quarterpipe, a Wallride and a creative array of curved, flat and kinked boxes and rails.
Friday is open for female riders to compete and qualify for five spots in Saturday afternoon’s 30-rider, two-hour jam session. Only eight girls will move on to the finals where you can expect the most stylish performances from the top riders of the day hoping to make the podium and increase their tour ranking.
